Welcoming Students Back Into the Home Studio!
I can’t wait to see you again in person!
2020 has proven to be a year we will not forget. As we welcomed in this year, I never imagined what was around the corner waiting to be discovered. This year has brought on some wonderful innovations and creative new ways for those in the performing arts to continue practicing and performing through various mediums and virtual platforms. Thank you for joining me in this educational journey, and take pride knowing that you are actively engaged in the transformation of the performing arts in a digital world.
Now that October is here and cases are steadily staying low, I have made the cautious decision to resume in-person lessons at my home studio for those who wish to make a transition off the Zoom platform. Beginning this week, October 5th, students may elect to attend lessons either in person, or virtually. At this time, lessons will remain 30-minutes in length and be supplemented with weekly video feedback. Studies released from leading health institutions and released to NATS teachers are all indicating that 30-minutes is still the maximum amount of time singers can safely rehearse in an indoor setting before substantially increasing the risk to others of exposure.
Please take note of what is required of students returning to in-person lessons:
-
Students (or parents of minor students) will be required to fill out a questionnaire/release form each day prior to lessons. This will be a JotForm and can be accessed here:
-
https://form.jotform.com/202780635287158.
-
This can also be accessed on the ”COVID-19 Waiver” tab on the studio website.

-
Students are required to wear a mask at all times while in the home studio. If a student needs to sip water during the lesson, their mask can be moved momentarily for that purpose.
-
Only students are allowed to enter the house for lessons; the waiting room is currently closed. Parents are encouraged to wait in their cars, or sit on the bench outside the front of the studio (weather permitting).
-
Students will be asked to sanitize hands and subject to a temperature check upon entry.
-
As a general rule, supplies will not be shared, with perhaps a small exception for items that can be easily and thoroughly sanitized and are not easily obtainable by most students, so please bring all needed materials to lessons (i.e. sheet music, pencils, recording device, water, etc.).
-
Here is a studio Amazon list which has several suggested supplies for students to utilize at home for practice. These are only suggested and not required for study.

If a student feels at all ill but still able to sing, s/he should opt for a virtual lesson instead. Please just let me know with at least 30 minutes notice if a switch needs to be made via text or phone call. If ill and unable to sing, I request you abide by the cancelation policy and give 24-hours notice, when able. The option for virtual lessons is a great addition to the studio and should be utilized whenever a conflict or slight illness makes it difficult to attend in person.
-
Please arrive no more than 2-3 minutes early for your lesson, as the time in between lessons will be used to cycle air and sanitize equipment.
What will I be doing to ensure your health and well-being?
-
I have purchased a Medify Air MA-112 V2.0 Air Purifier for the studio. This is a 950 CADR H13 HEPA Air Purifier that covers up to 5,000sq feet in one hour (1,500 square feet in 15 minutes). With this device, I can successfully cycle the air in the studio within a span of 15 minutes between students.
-
I will be wearing a mask during all lessons. Please note, I have two young children at home who do NOT wear masks in the house. If this is a concern, please consider staying virtual at this time.
-
At least 15 minutes will be scheduled between each student to allow time to sanitize equipment and run through a cycle of air with the purifier.
-
Windows will be opened for greater ventilation.
-
Students will sing at a distance of at least 8 feet from me at the piano.
-
General supplies will not be shared in lessons unless they are items that are particularly difficult for students to bring themselves and can be thoroughly sanitized between lessons.
-
Lesson notes will remain virtually submitted through the portal (no paper notes).
-
If I, or any member of my family feels sick or ill with cold/flu-like/COVID-19 symptoms, I will switch to the virtual platform until we are symptom-free and/or cleared of any contagion risk.
I am excited to have students back in the studio for lessons! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call, text, or email me.
